Hollybrook Cottage

This project involved the design of a bespoke new build cottage with a clean-lined contemporary character, carefully balanced to sit comfortably within its village setting near the Macclesfield Canal.

The house combines compact proportions with a highly efficient and well-considered layout. At ground floor level, the design centres around a light-filled open-plan kitchen, dining and living space, complemented by a separate lounge to provide flexibility between open and more private areas. Generous glazing and carefully positioned openings maximise natural light and strengthen the connection between internal spaces and the garden.

The first floor provides two well-proportioned double bedrooms, including a principal bedroom with en-suite and Juliet balcony, alongside a separate family bathroom. Throughout the house, material choices and detailing were carefully selected to create a contemporary yet warm interior that reflects the cottage scale of the building.

 

Externally, the form, materials and boundary treatments were designed to create a cohesive, high-quality dwelling that feels both modern and rooted in its surroundings.
