Glass Gable

This project involved the comprehensive remodelling and extension of an existing bay-fronted detached dwelling, transforming it into a contemporary family home set within a highly sensitive edge-of-town location.

A two-storey extension to the rear has fundamentally re-shaped the house, creating a generous open-plan kitchen, dining and living space designed around light, views and connection to the garden. Large areas of glazing and rooflights draw daylight deep into the plan and frame views across the surrounding landscape, while clearly defined zones allow the space to function flexibly for both everyday living and entertaining.

At first floor level, the extension enabled the creation of a generous principal bedroom suite, providing a calm and private retreat with elevated views over the countryside beyond.

Throughout the project, careful attention was paid to proportion, materiality and detailing to ensure the enlarged house reads as a cohesive whole, balancing contemporary design with the character of the original property.
