Light Living

This project involved a single-storey rear extension to create a bright, spacious open-plan kitchen, dining and living area, transforming the rear of the home into a flexible and welcoming family space.

The extension allowed for a significant increase in usable floor area, enabling a carefully considered open-plan layout that brings together cooking, dining and relaxation in one cohesive space. A large central kitchen island forms the heart of the room, providing ample workspace and informal seating, while also helping to define each zone within the open plan arrangement.

Natural light was a key driver of the design. Roof lights and wide glazed openings draw daylight deep into the plan, creating a light-filled interior throughout the day and strengthening the connection between the house and garden. The layout has been designed to allow each area to function independently while remaining visually connected, making the space equally suited to everyday family life and entertaining.
