Mulberry House

This project was designed to transform a much-loved family home to better suit the clients’ day-to-day living and future needs. The brief focused on creating more generous internal space, improving the arrival experience, and ensuring the new accommodation felt like a natural extension of the existing house.

A new front porch provides a clearer, more welcoming entrance and practical space for coats and shoes, helping to improve both functionality and street presence. To the side, a carefully designed two-storey extension allowed the ground floor to be opened up into a larger, light-filled open-plan living, kitchen and dining area — creating a sociable heart to the home that better supports modern family life.

Upstairs, the extension accommodates an additional bedroom, increasing the home’s flexibility while maintaining comfortable proportions and privacy. Externally, the design was developed to respect the scale and character of the original property, with materials and detailing chosen to ensure the extension sits comfortably alongside the existing house.

The result is a well-balanced home that feels more spacious, practical and future-proofed, while remaining true to its original character.
